Police believe the perpetrators of an armed robbery on Maple Street over the weekend were the same as those who committed a similar offense nearby two weeks ago.

Officers responded to the Kangaroo gas station at 1218 Maple St. shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday.

Lt. James Perry of the Carrollton Police Department said the female clerk, who was alone in the building, told police she was sweeping the station’s floor when two black males entered the store, with one putting a gun to her head.

The man demanded that she empty the drawer, which she did. The man went behind the counter and took all of the money that was in the cash drawer.

The two men fled around the back of the store, the clerk said, leaving on foot.

The clerk told police the man had pressed the gun against her head so hard that it had left a knot.

She also told police that both men were wearing black sweatpants and masks over their faces.

The one who threatened her with a gun was described as thin and between 5-foot, 9-inches and 6 feet tall. He was wearing all black, had short hair and a beard or goatee.

The other man, who acted as lookout, was wearing a hoodie that was orange or brown in color.

It was the third armed robbery of a local business in 11 days, with a Texaco gas station being robbed earlier last week and Johnny’s Midnite Grill being robbed the previous week.

Perry said the Texaco station robbery was unrelated, but police suspect the perpetrators of the Johnny’s robbery were the same people as the Kangaroo robbers.

Two black males entered Johnny’s Midnite Grill, also on Maple Street, around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15. The cashier told police that one of the men pointed a gun at her face and demanded her to empty the register.

The suspects were wearing black pants and black hoodies, with masks over their faces. The Johnny’s cashier said the two men were both “slender,” and that one of them was 6 feet tall and the other was slightly shorter.

Police believe the Texaco robbery was perpetrated by two white men, Perry said, so there is no suspicion that all three robberies are related.
