Two weeks after the Frog Golf Course at The Georgian’s clubhouse burned to the ground, investigators are looking for the cause of the blaze.

“We are still investigating, and insurance investigators are involved,” said Paulding County fire Deputy Chief Joey Pelfrey. “It takes a little longer to come up with a cause with it being burned to the ground, but we are still working. Right now there is nothing concrete.”

The Villa Rica neighborhood clubhouse was a total loss after a fire the night of Tuesday, Dec. 18. Calls came into the Paulding County 911 dispatch from a passerby shortly after 8 p.m. Once firefighters arrived, the fire was fully involved.

There were no injuries, and the fire did not spread to other buildings or areas. The clubhouse included a kitchen and apparel store and was often used for events.

Investigators initially hoped the cause could be found in a day or two, but it will take slightly longer due to the extent of the damage.

Meanwhile, the unharmed course has remained open for business starting the morning after the fire.

Tara Longo, an office manager for Cannongate Golf Clubs, confirmed that the course is open and that golfers are enjoying regular rounds at the course. The cart barn is serving as a temporary clubhouse, no plans have been made for a new clubhouse just yet.

The Georgian, developed by Cousins Neighborhoods, is a 1,400-home community adjacent to the 18-hole golf course, The Frog, which is open to the public.

Designed by acclaimed golf course architect Tom Fazio, The Frog is recognized among the top courses in Georgia. The course features Bentgrass greens, expansive bunkering and has also attained status as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.

The parkland-style 18-hole championship golf course was opened in 1998.

The course management team and the Sequoia Golf functional support leaders ensure the well-manicured golf course and service levels. The Frog has earned four-and-a-half stars from Golf Digest, and has hosted many notable golf events including the Georgia Open, CEO Jaguar Tour, the Five Star Celebrity Classic and the John Smoltz Celebrity Players Tournament.
